Workshop series on topics relating to the implementation of Natura 2000

Background

Germany as a party to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and as member state of the EU has committed itself to the conservation of biological diversity. Important instruments for the implementation of the CBD are the European network of protected areas Natura 2000, basing on Birds Directive and Flora-Fauna-Habitat Directive, as well as the National Strategy on Biodiversity of the German government. In Germany the main responsibility for implementation lies with the federal states. To support the implementation after nominating the Natura 2000 areas, a series of three workshops should help to facilitate the dialogue between representatives of administration bodies and experts of other stakeholder groups involved in implementation and management.

Workshops

Based on introductory key note presentations a group of approximately 35 participants will discuss relevant issues on the implementation of Natura 2000. Solutions and ideas developing during the exchange of experiences were documented and published in the NaBiv-Series of the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation.
